CREATING A DRUG FREE WORKPLACE

Perhaps the greatest deterrent of drug use in the workplace is the random drug screen program due largely to the unexpected nature of the tests. MTOEM can assist in crafting a random screening program that would allow the employer to select a number of individuals from the pool of employees in a specific workplace or organization. By using MTOEM’s electronic random selection tools, bias is eliminated and all employees have an equal chance of being selected, even those who have been drug tested recently.

The goal of our Drug Screening Programs is to add value to your organization by helping create a safe, drug-free workplace. These services may be performed in our walk-in clinics or at your company’s workplace utilizing MTOEM’s On-site Services.

Substances in Common Drug Panels:

In some cases, the influence of corporate culture can come into play with regard to what drugs are screened in a drug test. As legislation on the use of marijuana and as certain cultures change, employers may decide to customize their panel accordingly.

5-PANEL DRUG SCREEN: This panel of drug test is most frequently used by government agencies and private employers, as well as in industries where alertness is required, or heavy machinery is operated. The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires a 5 panel screen for commercial truck drivers prior to employment. DOT also requires this test at least once randomly per year, for post accidents, and if reasonable suspicion of drug abuse exists. This panel tests for amphetamine, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), and marijuana (THC).

10-PANEL DRUG SCREEN: Often administered to test employees of law enforcement and occupational medicine, as well as to examine if a person on legal probation is violating the terms of that probation. Furthermore, many civil servants are required to pass a 10-panel drug screen, particularly if their job entails dangerous work or work where the employee is responsible for the safety of others. This test typically looks for cocaine, marijuana, PCP, amphetamines, opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone, propoxyphene, & Quaaludes.

12-PANEL DRUG SCREEN: Often administered as an extension to the 10-panel test and looks for either the presence of extended opiates and prescription painkillers or traces of other controlled substances that could compromise safety in the workplace. This test typically looks for cocaine, marijuana, PCP, amphetamines, opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone, propoxyphene, Quaaludes, Ecstasy/MDA, & Oxycodone/Percocet.
